It's High Time! We must Speak about Pre & Post Menopause: Myths, Facts and Things to take care

" Ignorance is not Bliss." I share a real life story with you all.

One day I got a call from a young lady, her voice trembling with fear and confusion. She revealed a heartbreaking truth: her parents' marriage was on the brink of collapse. The reason? Her mother's sudden change in behavior—she didn't want to work anymore and seemed distant from everyone.

As the conversation unfolded, a startling revelation emerged. Her mother, at the age of 43, was silently battling a storm raging within her—a storm called premenopausal depression and anxiety. It wasn't something she chose; it crept up on her like a thief in the night, stealing her peace of mind and robbing her of her usual self. She didnt know sudden drop of Estrogen making her cry, scream and feeling lost, her stress at workplace making it worse.

Her husband, unaware of the hormonal imbalance creating havoc on his wife's body and mind, couldn't comprehend the sudden shift in her demeanor. Little did he know that hormonal changes during premenopause could plunge a woman into the depths of depression, especially when coupled with neglect of her physical and mental health.

The story didn't end there. It turned out that the relentless demands of work had pushed her to the edge, leaving her with no time to care for herself. Ignoring her physical and mental well-being only exacerbated her condition, turning her once-normal life into a battlefield of emotions and uncertainties.

In the end, this tale serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of recognizing the signs of premenopausal struggles. It highlights the critical role of proper self-care, including maintaining a healthy routine and managing stress levels. For women like her, understanding and support from loved ones can make all the difference in navigating the tumultuous journey of premenopause.

Menopause is a natural phase in a woman's life, signaling the end of reproductive years. However, the journey through pre and post menopause can be filled with myths and misconceptions. Understanding the facts and adopting a holistic approach can empower women to embrace this transition with grace and vitality.

Myths vs. Facts:

Myth: Menopause is solely about hot flashes, irregular periods and weight gain.

Fact: While these symptoms are common, menopause encompasses a range of physical and emotional changes, including hormonal shifts, bone density loss, mood swings, bloating, urine infection, vaginal dryness, heart diseases, insuline resistance etc in some women.

Myth: Women should resign themselves to inevitable weight gain during menopause.

Fact: With a balanced diet rich in protein, fiber, and vitamins, coupled with regular exercise, women can manage weight effectively during this transition. One should not go crazy about diet. A little gain is acceptable.

Myth: Strength training is only for the young; it's too late to start in your 40s.

Fact: Strength training is crucial for preserving bone density and muscle mass, making it beneficial at any age, especially during menopause but it should be done only with professional guidance.

To have good cardiac health and less prone to diabetics one must do strength training if mental health permits and stress level is low.
